What is the difference between the words magazine and journal, give examples, please?

Magazines usually contain general information that is available for anyone to read. Pretty much any magazine available in a newsagents, book store, supermarket.

Journals contain far more scholarly information, are far more expensive, and aimed for specific people. Journals aren't usually available in stores for the general public.
