Maker Marked Jade
Please help identify makers mark?
I own a very large jade buddha from the forty's The mark on the back is a large S and underneath is a Japanese Symbol that looks like a tic tac toe board does anyone know this mark and artists, our does anyone know the value of such any item, any help would be helpful peace always and thank you
I believe the character you are referring to is this: δΊ• In Japanese it means "well".. like as in a water well. It also has another common meaning which is "community" or "town". For the most part it's pronounced "e" which in Japanese is written as an "i".
A few of the other pronunciations are "shou", "ino", "sai" and "sei"...
I don't know the artist however maybe you can copy and paste the character I wrote above and do a simple search... at least you are one step closer now.
